What is the high temperature resistance of rubber sealing rings

The high temperature resistance of rubber sealing rings varies significantly depending on the material. Perfluoroether rubber (FFKM) can withstand short-term high temperatures up to 330 ℃, while fluororubber (FKM) can withstand temperatures up to 250 ℃, and some special formulations can reach up to 300 ℃.


High temperature resistance of rubber seals made of different materials


Perfluoroether rubber (FFKM).

Long term working temperature: -39 ℃ to 288 ℃.

Short term peak temperature: 315 ℃ (normal operating conditions) to 330 ℃ (intermittent operation). ‌

Application scenarios: Extreme environments such as semiconductor manufacturing equipment, high-temperature and high-pressure reactors, especially suitable for CVD equipment liners and etching processes. ‌


Fluororubber (FKM).

Standard temperature resistance range: -20 ℃ to 250 ℃.

Enhanced formula: Some products can reach up to 300 ℃ (static working condition). ‌

Application scenarios: Automotive engine seals, petroleum refining equipment, aerospace hydraulic systems. ‌


Silicone rubber (VMQ).

Temperature resistance range: -55 ℃ to 250 ℃.

Characteristics: ozone resistance, UV resistance but poor oil resistance.

Application scenarios: household appliance sealing, food grade equipment contact parts. ‌


Hydrogenated nitrile rubber (HNBR).

Temperature resistance range: -40 ℃ to 150 ℃.

Advantages: It has both wear resistance and compressive deformation resistance.

Application scenarios: Automotive transmission systems, washing mechanical seals. ‌


Special working condition precautions


The difference between dynamic sealing and static sealing: The temperature resistance upper limit of dynamic seals is usually about 20-50 ℃ lower than that of static seals. For example, it is recommended to control the temperature of perfluoroether rubber dynamic seals within 300 ℃. ‌


Chemical medium influence: Fluororubber's temperature resistance will decrease by about 30-50 ℃ in strong acid environments, and temperature parameters need to be adjusted according to the characteristics of the medium. ‌


Time factor: It is recommended to use the material continuously for no more than 4 hours at temperatures above 300 ℃ to avoid accelerated thermal aging of the material. ‌
